L-R: Doreene Blackstock, Michael Fatogun, Tosin Alabi, Anyebe Godwin, Nemide May

Congratulations to the cast of Dexter Flanders’ debut play Foxes, which scooped the award for Best Ensemble at the 2023 OFFIES. Presented by Defibrillator and Seven Dials Playhouse, this fierce production starred Michael Fatogun (Sweet Like Chocolate Boy, Tobacco Factory Theatre), Anyebe Godwin (Little Baby Jesus, Orange Tree Theatre), Doreene Blackstock (Sex Education, Netflix; Equus, Trafalgar Studios), Tosin Alabi (Queens Of Sheba, UK National Tour) and Nemide May (Albatross, Represent Theatre; Silent Witness; Doctors).

Directed by James Hillier (Sunnymead Court, The Actors Centre/ Arcola; Not Talking, Arcola), Foxes received its West End debut at Seven Dials Playhouse in May 2022 following previous runs at Theatre503 and Theatre Peckham, which were cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Foxes explores the complexities of sexual identity and the search for acceptance and joy. Interrogating the foundations of family and community when beliefs are suddenly disrupted, Foxes shines a light on queerness within London’s Black Caribbean Community. Lauded for its incredibly authentic performances and exceptional writing, Foxes achieved extraordinary critical acclaim, hailed by Afridiziak as a “a love letter to Black London” while The Guardian billed it as “a shattering tale of faith and family”, and BroadwayWorldUK called it “a groundbreaking theatrical triumph.”
