Sorry For Your Loss (BUT NOT REALLY) is a dark comedy about truth, friendship, and the delicate ties that hold our relationships together. The story follows Hei Hei, a woman who secretly fakes her own funeral in order to find out what people truly think of her. With the help of an overly enthusiastic funeral director, she hides in plain sight behind her own funeral portrait as friends, acquaintances, and unexpected visitors arrive to “mourn” her.

What begins as a bizarre social experiment quickly becomes a fragile journey into love, loss, and the strange ways people drift apart. Through awkward confessions, sentimental messages, and the confrontation between memory and reality, Hei Hei realises that the relationships she treasured may not be what she believed—and that some connections only reveal their depth after we loosen our grip on them.

'Simple, amusing, slightly poignant'

'I was surprised to see the contrasts in rituals and culture between Eastern and Western traditions'

— Audiences feedback from Voila Festival

Blending devised theatre and comedy, the piece uses humour to explore heavy themes: the fear of being forgotten, the longing to be loved, and the aching truth that people come and go in our lives. Drawing from both Eastern funeral rituals and Western theatricality, the show invites audiences to reflect on how different cultures approach death, grief, and the rituals that help us say goodbye—or fail to.
